まとわりつく湿度と鉛色の空、全てを覆い隠す雪と山の稜線。
遠くから動物の声が聞こえる。
山は、北の地は、感覚鋭く奥の根を呼び覚ます。
“U-ki-tomam”とはアイヌ語で、“広い-葦の生えた-湿地”を意味する。
撮影地である山形県置賜郡の地名の由来とされ、この地にはアイヌ人が南下し住み着き文化を残したという説がある。
山は何かを隠し守り続けている。広い湿地は存在し続けている。

金柑画廊では、7月4日（土）より7月26日（日）まで、柏屋友恵写真展 “Ukitomam” を開催いたします。
柏屋友恵は、2017年より出身地である山形を題材に作品を制作しています。本展 “Ukitomam” では、シリーズとして撮影を続けている、彼女の祖母が暮らしていた山形県置賜郡での作品群を展示いたします。
山形県置賜郡は山深い地域であり、そこに根差した暮らしは自然と密接につながっています。山への畏れや敬意が、風習として今なお暮らしの端々に残る土地にカメラを向けながら、柏屋は地元と外部、二つの眼差しのあいだを往還しながら撮影を続けてきました。作品制作は、その場所への奥深い理解へと進んでいく行為かもしれません。

The clinging humidity, the lead-colored sky, snow concealing everything, and the outline of the mountains.
Animal calls drift from the distance.
The mountains, the northern land, awaken something deep at the root of the senses.
“U-ki-tomam” is an Ainu word meaning “wide – reed-covered – wetland.”
It is said to be the origin of the name of Okitama District in Yamagata Prefecture, where the photographs were taken, and some believe that Ainu people once migrated south to this area, settled, and left traces of their culture.
The mountains still conceal and preserve something.
The wide wetlands remain.

Kinkan Gallery is pleased to present Tomoe Kashiwaya: "Ukitomam", on view from July 4 to July 26.
Since 2017, Tomoe Kashiwaya has been creating photographic works centered on her native Yamagata Prefecture. "Ukitomam" features photographs from an ongoing series photographed in Okitama District, Yamagata, where her grandmother once lived.
Nestled deep in the mountains, Okitama is a place where everyday life remains closely intertwined with nature. As she photographs a region where reverence for the mountains continues to shape local customs and ways of living, Kashiwaya moves between two perspectives—that of someone from the region and that of an outsider. Perhaps making this work is itself a way of arriving at a deeper understanding of the place.
