｢ぐるんぐるん廻る腕」

長い間、足の置き場の無い、尖った先の安定を保つのが困難な処に立っているような漠然とした感覚を抱えていて、高い所から落ちそうになったり体の安定が崩れると腕を動かして安定を取り戻そうとする状態に在る気がするが、落ちる先がどこなのか虚空しか見えず、不安だが恐さは無いので、いっそのこと落ちてしまえば良いのにとさえ思う。
作品を作る際に、自分のこれまでと違う新たな方向を模索しようと意識はするが、制作するとそれほど変わり映えのないものを作っている気がしてため息が出ることが多い。新たな構想に迷いが生じ、失敗への余計な不安も抱え、もう一つ踏み込めないでいるのを感じる。新たなものへの畏れはなく、求めて見えないものを探る行為をやめてはいないが、どこかバランスを保つために腕を振り回しているだけな気がしてしょうがない。それも左右の腕を互いに逆に回しているような。
安定を望むのか、落ちる先に向かうのか、明確に区別が付かないまま、常に腕を回し続けている。

金柑画廊は、10月24日（土）から11月15日（日）まで、広瀬良二個展「ぐるんぐるん廻る腕」を開催いたします。
広瀬良二は、古い素材を作品に取り込みながら、ドローイング、コラージュや立体などの作品を制作しています。
彼の作品は、直感的でありながら、時に構造的な要素を含み、素材がかつて持っていた用途や意味から離れ、ものであることからの脱却へと向かいます。
作品は写し鏡であり、探究心や心の縁にある何かの具現化ともいえます。充足した制作を経ても、必ずしも何かが作品として具現化されるわけではなく、平安が約束されているわけでもありません。それでもそこへ向かおうとしてしまうのは、必然も合理もない不条理さのなかで、足元のおぼつかない場所に立ち続け、不意に地面を自覚できたような感覚を求めているのではないかと思います。この機会にご高覧ください。

これまで広瀬良二さんと何回セッションしてきただろうか。周りの方々のおかげで回数を重ねるごとに輪郭は大きくなってゆき、そのどれもが素晴らしい現象を生み出せたと自負している。

金柑画廊で展示を開催すると聞いた時、芸術家・広瀬良二と今の自分二人だけで何ができるのか知りたくなった。あの日初めてセッションした時のまるでリーバイス501のような時間が作れたらと思っている。そう、誰も踊った事のないような俺だけのダンスを波打つ床に乗りながら。

前田和寿
宅録的音楽家。アンビエントからフォークまで、精神性を深く探りながら自身の音楽表現を長年模索している。想像力豊かな音は如何に空間を支配し、聴くものを魅了するかに言及したものであり、環境音楽的要素も含め、独自の世界観を描き出す。活動はとてもパーソナルでゲリラ的である。その神出鬼没な存在は謎めいているが、二児の父親で家庭的な側面を持つ事はあまり知られていない。

“Arms Going Round and Round”

For a long time, I have carried a vague feeling of standing on a sharp edge where it is difficult to keep my balance, with nowhere to put my feet, feeling as though I am always moving my arms to steady myself whenever I feel myself about to fall or lose my balance, yet seeing nothing below me but space, and because I am anxious but not afraid, sometimes even thinking that I might as well fall.
While working on a piece, I try to find a new direction, something different from what I have done before, but when I actually make something, I often find myself sighing, feeling that what I have made is not so different after all. I become caught up in uncertainty about new ideas and unnecessary worry about failure and feel that I cannot quite take that next step. I am not afraid of what is new, and I have not stopped searching for something I cannot yet see, but I cannot shake the feeling that I am somehow just waving my arms to keep my balance, as if my left and right arms were moving in opposite directions.
I keep moving my arms, without knowing whether I am trying to stay balanced or moving toward the place where I might fall. And yes, riding the waves of a rippling floor, dancing my own dance, one that no one has ever danced before.

Kinkan Gallery is pleased to present “Arms Going Round and Round,” a solo exhibition by Ryoji Hirose, on view from October 24 to November 15, 2026.
Hirose works with old objects, creating drawings, collages, sculptures, and other forms of work.
His work is intuitive, yet at times incorporates structural elements. The materials are freed from their original uses and meanings, and the work becomes more than itself.
A work can be a mirror, a manifestation of one's curiosity, or an expression of something within oneself. Even a deeply fulfilling process of making does not guarantee that a work will emerge or that the process itself will bring peace of mind. Perhaps artists continue to find themselves drawn to it, even amid the absurdity of a process that offers neither inevitability nor reason, in search of a moment when, standing on uncertain ground, they suddenly become aware of the ground beneath their feet.

Ryoji Hirose and I have had several sessions together. Thanks to the people around us, the shape of what we do together has become clearer with each session, and I feel proud that each one has brought about something wonderful.

When I heard that Hirose was going to have an exhibition at Kinkan Gallery, I started wondering what might happen when artist Ryoji Hirose and I come together as we are today. I hope we can create a moment that brings back the feeling of our first session, something as timeless as a pair of Levi’s 501s. And yes, riding the waves of a rippling floor, dancing my own dance, one that no one has ever danced before.

A home-recording musician. From ambient to folk, he has spent many years exploring his musical expression while delving deeply into questions of spirituality. His imaginative sounds explore how music can shape and dominate a space, captivating listeners while incorporating elements of environmental music to create a unique personal world. His activities are highly personal and guerrilla-like. While his elusive presence adds an air of mystery, few know that he is also a father of two, with a domestic side to him.
