into the body

into the body
Soft happiness and moments of pleasure,
As soon as you say wait, it's gone.
Light shines through the darkness and the pain,
I find myself saying warm.
Emotions are vague and elusive,
But like flowing blood and breathing,
They change form and stay in the body,
And form the person I am today.
Stillness and movement, tension and relaxation, body and emotion,
Pulling and influencing each other in every direction,
Then creating a thin film of something.
I want to scoop it up and preserve it.
(NINOMIYA Sawako)
Kinkan Gallery is pleased to present "into the body," a solo exhibition by NINOMIYA Sawako from February 11 to March 5.
As an embroidery artist, NINOMIYA Sawako continues to express herself in a variety of media, including paintings, three-dimensional works, apparel, and embroidery projects. In recent years, she has been creating embroidered works that are inspired by various everyday sensations (sounds, air, scenery, human interactions, etc.) and expresses them as she feels. Last year's solo exhibition, "through the body" (Fukuoka), focused on the theme of things from the outside passing through her body. The title of this year's exhibition, "into the body," is derived from her modest urge to let it permeate her body and keep it there. She says, "Embroidery is a process of stabbing the cloth with a needle and threading it, and then going back and forth between the front and the back of the cloth as it is repeatedly wounding and healing." The embroidered plane also gains mass and becomes a more physical expression. The physicality of the embroidery, the front and back, and the warmth of the threads and cloth would be all important elements of her expression. In this exhibition, we will present an installation consisting of her new embroidered works. Please take this opportunity to visit the exhibition.
