「過去に 回転して 窓の向こう」

私たち三人は、写真学生として同じ時間を過ごしたけれど、その後はまったく異なる道を歩
んできた。

見てきた景色も、積み重ねてきた時間も、それぞれに違っている。

それでもみんな自分のペースで、写真を撮り続けていた。

ある日の居酒屋で、石渡朋がふいに思い出したのが、「いつ/どこで/誰が/誰と/何をした」
という言葉あそびだった。無作為に紡がれた言葉が思いがけない組み合わせを生み、私たち
は笑い転げた。

今回展示をするにあたり、タイトルもその遊びにちなんでつけられた。

「いつ/なにが/誰が」「どこで/どうやって/なぜ」「どうなった(状況)」という要素を即興
で出し合い、偶然にできたセンテンスだ。

写真もあらかじめテーマを決めずに、三人が自由に持ち寄った作品を並べることにした。

言葉をつなげると、意図しない何かが立ち上がるように、それぞれの写真を並列させるこ
とで、新たな視点やイメージが開かれるかもしれない。

三人がばらばらに見ていたものの間に、そんな予期せぬ瞬間が訪れることを期待している。

金柑画廊は、7月5日（土）から7月27日（日）まで、石渡朋、チバサヤカ、長谷川諭子による写真展『過去に 回転して 窓の向こう』を開催いたします。
3人は同時期に東京綜合写真専門学校で写真を学びました。卒業後、石渡は撮影の仕事をしながら、チバは一度写真から離れたものの、出産後に活動を再開し、長谷川は作家として作品を発表しながら、フィルムやデジタルなどの手法で、それぞれが制作を続けてきました。
時を経ての再会と、異なる時間を過ごしながらも写真との関わりを持ち続けていたことが、今回の展示へとつながりました。それぞれが過ごしてきた時間は彼女たちの糧となり、写真にはその時にしか撮れないものがあるからこそ、時間そのものも写し込まれていくのだと思います。
写真を続けていく道に決まった形はなく、決して容易ではありませんが、彼女たちは行きつ戻りつしながら歩みを続けてきました。
本展『過去に 回転して 窓の向こう』は、ちょっとした言葉遊びからつけられたタイトルです。言葉がイメージを表現しながらも文字という共通のかたちで表されるように、撮影方法はフィルム、デジタルと異なりますが、同じメディアで作品を発表します。
彼女たちが写真に向き合ってきた時間も感じながら、作品を通じて写真の面白さを感じていただけたらと思います。この機会にご高覧ください。

“Turning to the Past, Beyond the Window”

The three of us once shared the same time as photography students, but since then, we’ve each gone our separate ways.

The landscapes we've seen and the time we've built up are all different.

Still, each of us has continued to take photographs.

One day at an izakaya, Tomo Ishiwata suddenly recalled a word game: “When/Where/Who/With whom/Did what.” The randomly formed combinations gave rise to the unexpected—and had us in stitches.

This exhibition takes its title from that very game.

We improvised sentences using elements like “when/what/who,” “where/how/why,” and “what happened (situation),” leaving it up to chance to decide the outcome.

Similarly, we didn’t set a theme for the exhibition. Each of us simply brought our works freely, and we placed them side by side.

Just as connecting random words can bring forth something unintended, placing our photographs in parallel might open up new perspectives or images.

We hope that such unexpected moments will emerge—between the things each of us has seen, in our own way.

Kinkan Gallery is pleased to present the photography exhibition "Turning to the Past, Beyond the Window," featuring works by Tomo Ishiwatari, Sayaka Chiba, and Satoko Hasegawa. The exhibition will be held from Saturday, July 5, through Sunday, July 27, 2025.

All three studied photography at the Tokyo College of Photography at the same time. After graduation, Ishiwatari worked professionally as a photographer, Chiba temporarily stepped away from photography but resumed her activities after giving birth, and Hasegawa continued to produce works as an artist. Each of them has continued creating using various methods, including film and digital techniques.

Their reunion after some time, along with their ongoing engagement with photography, led to this exhibition. The years they have lived have become the foundation of their work, and because photography captures something unique to each moment, the passage of time is unintentionally woven into their images.

There is no fixed path for continuing with photography, and it is by no means an easy one. Yet each of them has kept moving forward—sometimes pausing, sometimes retracing their steps.

The title of this exhibition, “Turning to the Past, Beyond the Window,” emerged from a bit of wordplay. Just as words give form to images through the shared structure of written language, each artist presents her work through a different approach—be it film or digital—but within the same medium of photography.

We hope that, while sensing the time they have spent with photography, you will also feel the allure of photography itself through their works.
